The Unification Commission has announced that the Rev. Jihyun Oh has been named as Executive Director and Stated Clerk of the General Assembly for the interim unified agency. Oh, who was elected Stated Clerk at the 226th General Assembly (2024) of the PC(USA) last summer, begins her new role immediately. The commission’s unanimous vote Thursday means that the staff of both the Office of the General Assembly and Presbyterian Mission Agency report to Oh and that the role of PMA President and Executive Director has been phased out.
To Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb, the staff and students of Dar al-Kalima University College
Bethlehem, Palestine
Dear Friends in Christ,
I write to you on behalf of your partner, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), to say that we join you and stand with you in grief and anger concerning the September 16, 2024 attack on Dar al-Kalima University College.
A little over a year ago, the Rev. Bronwen Boswell was invited to step into the role of Acting Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). In doing so, she became the first woman to ever serve in this capacity within the denomination. She concludes her term in office this week, returning to her job as general presbyter for Shenandoah Presbytery.
Boswell recently sat down with Presbyterian News Service to reflect on her 13 months in office.
It saddens me that my last statement as Acting Stated Clerk is about another senseless tragedy that should not have occurred. Sonya Massey was a woman in need of assistance, and the very people who were sworn to protect her are the ones who ended her life.
Today we recognize the 159th anniversary of Juneteenth and celebrate the liberation of enslaved African Americans from chattel slavery in the United States. While the Emancipation Proclamation declared enslaved Black people in the Confederate states to be legally free at the stroke of midnight on January 1, 1863, we know this did not immediately lead to the freedom of all enslaved people in the United States.
Dear God,
We pray for the unity of our nation. Heal the wounds of division and discord. Foster in us a spirit of reconciliation and mutual respect so that we may come together in our shared humanity to seek the well-being of all your children.
Lord, in these times of uncertainty, help us to remember that our ultimate allegiance is to your Kin-dom. Fill our hearts with love, compassion and a relentless commitment to justice. Empower us to be peacemakers, bridge builders and advocates for truth.
